About on cue

It was the first day of lockdown last March that I had a Common Firecrest in the garden, so I've been hoping for a repeat for my local year list as it's prime time to encounter a bird on passage.

Yesterday morning a piercing call coming from my neighbour's conifer meant my luck was in and I enjoyed a few minutes with this increasingly common, but no less desirable, kinglet. Before it moved through, I tried my hand with my new phonescoping adapter. (Though in this case I was phonebinning.) The results won't win me anything but they certainly prove sticking a bit of plastic on your phone can bag record shots of even the smallest, most restless species.
